Where we were

This was take the day after Nico was born. It is amazing to see where we've been compared to where we are now. We are so thankful that it is behind us and Nico seems so healthy now.

This was the first time I got to touch Nico, on January 1st.

Lately I have been slower in posting. I went back to work March 1st. Quinton stays home with the kids when I am at work and works on the days I am home. It is keeping us quite busy, but we consider ourselves very fortunate to be able to do this.
Friday Nico went to the neurologist for a check-up. I was surprised to find out he weighs 11.9lbs! The doctor thought that he is doing well and we scheduled another check-up for 6 months from now.
Nico is beginning to coo and take a little interest in some toys. Maya is continuing to kiss on him and want to help take care of him. She is quite happy to be at home with us, instead of at daycare. I thought she would be asking for her friends there. We have been playing with her friend, Adlie, though and going to the library. She is beginning to listen to longer stories and to pretend to read. She is also making up her own language as she pretends. It is quite cute and laughable.

Who needs sleep?

The Barenaked Ladies song is in my head: "Who needs sleep? You're never gonna get it... Who needs sleep? Tell me what that's for." Ah, we all need sleep. I don't even think Nico is getting enough sleep.
Thursday morning I took Maya to The Little Gym for her first gymnastics class. She was hesitant at first, but then she joined in and had a blast. What's not to love about running and jumping? She used the balance beams and an air table and attempted somersaults and cartwheels. Sign us up!

I thought Nico was going to be the easiest baby. After all, whenever I went to the hospital he was always sleeping peacefully in his crib. Since he's been home he has perked up a lot, though and doesn't want to spend any time sleeping in his bassinet. He spends most of the night and day in this pink vibrating bouncer seat. I put him in it after eating because he spits up a lot and it is supposed to help for him to have his head elevated. His 3 hour feeding schedule has also gone good-bye as he would rather have smaller servings about every 2 hours instead. He is hiccuping in his bassinet as I type, fussing every time his pacifier falls out. I feel bad for him that his tummy gets so upset.
I know that he will grow so fast and all of this will be behind us before we know it. It is hard for me to believe he has changed so much since our first days with him. He has gotten through many obstacles. We are thankful for him and our family has felt lots of love this Valentine's day. Maya had a special day at her grandma's house. Our neighbors brought us a yummy steak dinner. We are so blessed!
Today's ultrasound showed continued improvement, enough that the neurosurgeon feels Nico doesn't need any more ultrasounds. He said there is still some excess fluid, but that it should continue to drain. He doesn't believe any surgical intervention will be needed.
