Merry Christmas!
Maya loves the lights and taking ornaments off the Christmas tree. When she first saw the snowmen ornaments, she insisted they were owls. Now she calls them "nowman." We are looking forward to her first ever Christmas performance this Friday evening. I'm sure it will be a hoot! We'll have our camera on to record the mayhem. I think her class will be singing "Jingle Bells."
Snow in Houston!!
On December 10th , it started snowing on the drive home from work and snowed all evening. In the morning most of the snow had melted, but it was magical. All the neighbors were outside with their kids. Poor Maya was asleep in bed until morning!
AZ Trip
Here are a couple photos from our time at my parent's house. We had a great time being together and Maya enjoyed her 1st trip to the zoo very much! The top photo has my parents and my mom's mother, Geneva in it. It was Maya's first time to be with her great-grandmother.

Too long
I know it has been far too long since I've written and posted photos. The hurricane was an experience I'll never forget and has made me much more appreciative of things like cold water and electricity. I have been working too much and am almost to the end of our busy season. I am very much looking forward to only working 3 days a week again.
Maya is constantly exploring and learning new words. About 2 weeks ago she put two words together for the first time. She told Quinton "bye-bye Daddy." She not only walks and runs well now, but she also walks backwards and sideways. She's yet to come to respect gravity and will dive face first off the couch if given the chance. She loves her babydolls and likes to pretend with them. She lays them facedown, covers them with a blanket and pats their backs, saying "shhh, shh."
She is still very much a picky eater. She is good at eating her fruits and grains, but not so big on veggies and meat. She loves bananas and cereal. She will happily tell you "no" if she does not want something.
Her little independent spirit comes out a lot. She prefers to try to do things herself. She likes to spoon her own cereal and try to put her own shoes on. When I tell her it's time for a bath or bed she runs around the room as fast as she can, laughing all the way. Sometimes this amuses me more than others.
Right now we are at Nana and Grandpa's house in Arizona, with my grandmother here as well. The weather is very nice and we have been relaxing. A trip to the zoo is planned for Monday, a first for Maya.
I look forward to posting vacation pictures, Halloween and pumpkin patch photos. As the weather cools, we will be outside a lot more. There is a lot to enjoy. Maya is so delighted by all the new things to see.

Toddlerhood
Maya is no longer a baby! She has graduated to toddlerhood. I'm basing this on the fact that on Thursday Maya perfected the word "no!" Prior to that it was always "bo." It was our first trip to Chuck E. Cheese with Holly, Jennifer, and their kids. I wanted Maya to sit so I could buckle a seat belt so I could let her ride the little car. She said "no" and pushed my hand away several times. I did get it on camera, so we'll post that soon. She had a blast at Chuck E. Cheese. She ran all over the place and enjoyed her slice of pizza.
Maya also has gone in the race car shopping cart at the grocery store the last two trips. She feels like a big girl there and has room next to her for her sippy cup and snack bowl. As I type, she is playing with my cell phone. She keeps putting it to her ear and "talking" into it. She makes me laugh!

Words
Maya says "up" now when she is going to stand or to have you pick her up. She says "ow" to get out of the tub or her highchair. She loves to say "uh oh," and she says "Mmmm" when she's eating. It is fun to see her learning new things.
She did it!
She stands! She first stood up all by herself June 19th, and we caught this photo on the 22nd.
Monday the 30th she starts at a new daycare. I think she will get a lot of stimulation there. We had fun when we visited there twice this week. She is a happy girl. She babbles all the time now and is constantly saying "why?" I'm quite sure she has no idea she is asking a question.
What a big girl!
June 3rd- Maya's first meal at the big table. She was so pleased to sit next to Daddy!
June 5th- Maya got her first baby doll. She was very interested in it's toes!
June 21st- Maya is enjoying her new playhouse that our generous neighbors gave us when their kids outgrew it. It is upstairs in our game room.
First Haircut!
May 19th we went to the salon for Maya's fist haircut. She was very wiggly! What a big girl she is now!
She walks holding our hands and cruises around. She's also started crawling like a stinkbug, with her tush up in the air. She is learning to use a straw cup instead of a bottle, but it is taking a while. She has said "bye, bye" a few times now and has signed "more."
We have been swimming a few times this summer, in our pool and in the neighborhood kiddie pool. I am thankful that she likes it a lot. She has also been playing in the sprinklers at the O'Neal's house with Ben and Abby. She has lots of fun being taken care of by them.
I don't want cake!
Mommy made a strawberry cake with fresh strawberries and put colored cool whip on Maya's cake. Maya enjoyed playing with the cool whip, but didn't put anything in her mouth. She wouldn't let anyone else feed her cake or ice cream either. (small video added)
Easter
Maya and Mama had a nice trip to Arizona for Easter. Maya got a swing at Nana and Grandpa's house on the back porch. She loved it! She also enjoyed playing with all the toys Nana has bought.
She is quite the fast crawler now. She pulls up some, but hasn't attempted cruising or walking yet. That is quite fine by me. She will be off and running soon enough.
Maya moved up to a new car seat last weekend. She is growing, but is still only about 18 pounds. She learned "uh-oh" last weekend and thinks it is fun to throw things on the floor and then say "uh-oh." Dada is still her word of choice. She squeals with delight and even claps sometimes when he enters the room. Mama normally is greeted by squeals and feet kicking as well. That is one of the joys of having a baby. No one else gives you that kind of greeting!
It is hard to believe her birthday is less than a week away! In some ways the trip to the delivery room seems like yesterday. But then it also seems like forever ago that it was just Q and I in this house.
Milestones
I can't believe February is almost gone already! Maya is hitting milestones almost daily. She clapped a little over a week ago. Then she sat up in her crib. The next day she sat up by herself on the floor. She pulled herself up in the bathtub. I am going to have to get used to all this mobility and be more careful about what she might be able to reach. She has started to point at things. It is funny. And "dada" is still her favorite word. Mama does seem to be working its way into her vocabulary. She has learned how to drink from a juice box container, although I don't give her much juice. She is getting a little pickier with what vegetables she'll eat, but will eat tons of cheerios. We are having fun watching her learn so quickly.
On the Move
Christmas at Nana and Grandpa's
January 16th- 9 monthsI am working 3 days a week now and Maya is in a daycare since January 2nd. She is adjusting to having so many babies and people around. Napping there is still not easy for her. She is quite content when I leave her there in the mornings. I am waiting for the separation anxiety stage to set in, but won't mind if we somehow avoid it.
We had a wonderful family Christmas and can't believe January is over already. We are excited that our friends, Michael and Jordan, found out this week they are having a baby girl. In June Maya will have a new little friend on our street. She loves when we go to Holly and Brad's house and their children, Abby and Ben, shower her with attention and bring all their toys out to show her.
Maya is continuing to babble. She loves saying "dada" and much to mommy's disappointment seems to ignore the word "mama." She also says "yaya" a lot, which at first I wondered why. Then I realized her name.... Sometimes mommy is a bit slow. Sleep deprivation is still occurring. It is 4:40am as I write this.
