Holiday
Maya has gone to winter camp 2 mornings this week at gymnastics. She had great fun. She is at the "Why?" stage of childhood. "Why is my hair getting longer? Why does my horse have a tail? Why is that girl taller than me?..." and on and on and on.... She is excited about Christmas. She has been enjoying the decorations and learning about Jesus. She is also looking forward to Santa bringing her a purple bird.
Nico is getting bigger daily. He is quite the eater. The other day I put carrot pieces and mushy broccoli spears on his tray and he gobbled up all the broccoli first. He has mastered his pincer grasp and also enjoyed eating peas this week and well as trying Life cereal. With it being the holidays and all, I have also shared some of my cookies and cupcakes with him. He will be ready to eat his birthday cake next week!
Nico had his first bath in the big tub this week. Luckily I had only put a couple inches of water because he flopped right over on his belly to grab a toy. He is crawling along on his belly and sometimes gets up on his hands and knees to rock back and forth. I think he will soon be crawling with his belly off the ground. We have been playing some standing at an activity table. He will pull himself up, with a little help. He has no respect for gravity yet, though. He'll throw himself down at any moment.
This afternoon we all had a special treat. We went to Kemah to ride the rides and have some ice cream. It was Nico's first time on the carousel and I think he enjoyed it quite a bit. It was about 70* with 90% humidity, so there were plenty of people out and about. Nico enjoyed watching everything and Maya wanted to ride again and again.

Nico is sitting by himself now for 5 to 10 minutes at a time. He is also army crawling quickly across the room to get whatever toy he deems as desirable. I know soon he won't be a baby anymore. He'll be a little boy, running around the room and making me chase him.
Maya is a chatterbox and a complete girly girl. Her favorite colors are purple and pink. She loves to pick out her clothes in the evening for the next day. Also, the more ponytails and bows in her hair, the better. She also loves looking at herself in the mirror and dancing around for herself.

So tonight as I was tucking Maya in to bed I told her that I would go to the airport after work and pick Nana up and bring her home with me. Maya said "Why?" This confuses me so I try again, "Nana is going to fly on a big airplane and land at the airport. I have to go to the airport to pick her up." Maya says," But why are you going to pick her up?" Hmmm. "How do you think Nana is going to get home from the airport?" I say as Maya is saying "Nana is big. Why are you going to pick her up?" Ah, the light bulb moment. Ha, Ha! "Mommy isn't going to really pick her up. I am going to get her in my car and bring her home." Oh, so funny! This is the good stuff!
Nico has been exploring the full range of squeals recently. Soon he will be doing arpeggios, I think. He has gotten his two front bottom teeth and today bit me three times. This is a habit that will need to be broken quickly! He is studying people more closely now, as well as objects. I can almost see the gears turning.
Maya is using her growing imagination to play with her dollies. Their names are Alice in wonderland (formally pink dolly), Eloise, Cinderella bear and team umizoomi. The other night she wanted to play dollies with me instead of reading a book. That was highly unusual, but very fun. She started gymnastics a few weeks ago and is loving it. She looks forward to it all week. She follows directions there quite well and I am amazed by her braveness. Tonight she walked across the balance beam, about 3 feet off the ground, all by herself. The teacher wasn't even standing near.

This morning Maya's daycare had a trial ballet lesson to see if people wanted to sign up. I came and watched Maya to see how she would do. Ever since the pamphlet came home last week we talked about ballet. So the teacher took them down to the gym and was having them warm up by "flying" around like airplanes then crawling across the "desert." Maya ran around a little and then parked herself against the wall. I told her to go follow the teacher. "No." Then "Mommy's not going to pay $35 for you to stand against the wall, go dance." "No."
When it was over we walked back to the normal classroom and I told Maya I would come pick her up after her nap. Then she said," And then we can go to ballet." (ha ha). I said, "Honey that was ballet." I guess she missed that part of the lesson. :o)
Well, I'd been looking at the Little Gym in Friendwood's class schedule. So I called them up and this evening we went there for a trial class. She had a great time. I watched through the window while she ran around, forward rolled, long-jumped, walked the balance beam and generally expended a lot of energy. I was worn out just watching. So our little Maya was meant to be a gymnist for now, not a ballerina. I look forward to taking her again next week!

Update
Nico had his drain ties removed today so we hope that is the end of that. Maya and Mom are dealing with a cold of sorts. I fought it off last week and hope they get well soon. We are looking forward to cooler weather so we can spend some time outside again.

Fun weekend!
Poor Nico got to go to the hospital for having a staph infection on his leg that wasn't being stopped by normal antibiotics. They had the chief surgeon perform the draining and install these things to keep the incisions open, ouch. He impressed them at the hospital with his many smiles through it all. Here is a shot of his wound, click it to enlarge if you can stand it. He goes back in a week as long as all is well to get them removed.
