Sea World San Antonio

We had a quick trip to San Antonio over President's Day weekend. The weather was great, cool and cloudy.
We stopped at the Alamo and then went to the park. The first thing we did in the gates was go on a huge roller coaster, that didn't go upside down. Then we watched the sea lion show, stumbled upon a family of 7 baby ducks, watched the beluga whales, dolphins and acrobatic divers.

Maya Rides Again

The weather is cooling, sunny and beautiful, and fall is here. This weekend was spent playing outside with the neighbors. Tonight, Maya wanted to ride her bike. Last spring we had taken the training wheels off and made one attempt at riding without them. Tonight, with her daddy, she practiced and practiced and now can ride several houses away!Hopefully she'll do it again tomorrow and we'll get it on camera.

Summer

Summer has been full of swimming. Every weekend we try to go to the neighborhood pool at least one day. It is different this year, because we don't play in the "baby" pool at all. And both kids can swim by themselves in the shallow end without floaties. It has been fun! They love to play with diving sticks and rings and to use their noodles to shoot water at each other.
Last week we took a trip to Bastrop, Texas, near Austin. We went to the Dino Park there and then canoeing on Lake Bastrop. We also went swimming in McKinney Falls state park. They both jumped right in and swam with the fish and the turtles. The water was nice and cool and the sound of the waterfall was soothing.

Nico's Pre-K Graduation

May 15th, Nico's class had a very nice ceremony, with songs, dancing, memory verse reciting and, of course, cookies! We are so proud of him!

Friendship

This weekend Adlie and Maya got to spend time together. They are sweet friends who seem to pick up right where they left off each time they get to see each other. They like to coordinate their clothes, dance, sing and make up games.

Really?

Nico said one of the cutest things this evening. He hopped on the scale in the bathroom and said, "I want to see how much my feet weigh."
His feet (plus body) weighed 41.6 pounds.

The Houston Zoo

We had perfect weather Saturday for a trip to the zoo!

Nico's first swim lesson: June 26th

Nico was brave and happy at his first swim lesson. The teacher helped him lie on his back in the water, blow bubbles and put his face under water, and paddle around the pool. We are looking forward to the next lesson.

End of school

First Grade Fun:

The last week of school was full of fun, including field day, a field trip to the bowling alley and an end of year party with a pinata and water gun fight.

Roommates

I knew this day was coming. The trundle bed hasn't been used in Maya's room. The other night after we put the kids to bed, though, Nico sneaked in and went to sleep in Maya's bed. So the next night we pulled out the trundle for this...

Nico turns 4!

Nico has been running around with lots of toys, pretending they are guns. A stuffed puppy works. Or a hammer... Or a Barbie doll. So it wasn't hard to figure out what would be a good birthday present.
He also loves superheros, like most little boys, the Incredible Hulk being his favorite. The Hulk does not wear a shirt, so neither does Nico most of the time.

Butterfly Field Trip

I got to go with Maya's first grade class to the Museum of Natural Science on December 13th. We saw an IMAX about the migration of Monarch butterflies. It was funny when the movie began and 90% of the kids stood up to grab the butterflies! After the movie we went to see the bugs in cases and then on to the big room where the butterflies can come land on you.
I learned the difference between a cocoon and a chrysalis. There were many really pretty moths as well as butterflies! Maya has made some good friends this year.

Thanksgiving Trip to Arizona

The Saturday before Thanksgiving, the kids and I flew to Phoenix. My brother, Nathan, flew into town that week too. It had been a long time since we were together. We had a nice time together celebrating Thanksgiving, having an early mini-Christmas and enjoying sunshine!
Maya got several Lego Friends sets and we spent hours putting them together. The kids made dirt roads and played with trucks and cows in the yard. I got to see my friend, Rhiannon, for an afternoon. It had been years since we were together.

Houston Zoo

We visited the zoo on a warm, cloudy day. It was a very nice diversion.
Maya says her favorite was the giraffes. Nico liked the many different monkeys.
       The meerkats are always friendly!

                Look at those horns!

A little brushing of the goats.....

And watching the koi swim by.
